My point was that even if its not a Rolex, that doesn't mean its necessarily a knock off... Like I said, Fossil makes a similar watch and so do many other companies. Dive watches are extremely popular and many companies make them. If he's wearing a diver style watch made by Casio, it wouldn't be considered a knock off necessarily. It'd just be a regular 50 dollar diver's watch.

Sam's watch
by Slidin Fast ini just started to watch the february broadcast when i noticed a metallic rattle over the drone of sam's voice.
(does that man speak with a mouth full of chowin' tobacco or is he choking on the rubbish he reads off the autocue?).
yep it's his rolex.

In his defense, the submariner style of watch is one of the most emulated in history. Even fossil has several watches in their line up that emulate the Rolex Submariner style. This means that even if its not a Rolex, it doesn't necessarily mean its a fake. There's a kiss-ass MS in my hall that has a similar watch by Michael Kors (horrible in my opinion, but that's another conversation).
Until, I see hi-res photos that show at least a little more detail, I can't say its a Rolex. 20K is no laughing matter.

If only I could get a higher res photo of this. If that's a solid gold Submariner, it'd be insane. No doubt they already have an excuse for it in mind... after all Jesus wore fine expensive underwear right? -

Elders in Spain Steal Millions from Congregation
by cappytan inthese men are appointed by holy spirit,.
here is the source: http://www.economiadigital.es/es/notices/2015/01/la-fiscalia-imputa-una-estafa-de-mas-de-170-millones-de-euros-a-una-congregacion-de-testigos-de-jeho-65161.php.
basically, if you don't know spanish, it boils down to this: (my personal editorial of what i've read).

I also find this hard to believe. 170 million Euros in a country where the unemployment rate has been for the last decade at 25% or more is kind of implausible. Then how are these 14 elders supposed to circumvent the many COs, DOs, and branch visitors that would likely peep in every once in a while? The article mentions the use of a "cepillo" which denotes a donation tray, which we know the JWs dont use. . . I smell fish and its not the yummy sushi kind. -

Does anyone know the background? Who was this talk directed to? I just happened to find it after one of you referred to it in a previous post. It knocked my socks off!

Any elders out there? How to Local needs talks work?
by Letts Party inso a local needs talk was lovingly given at our hall last week that i'm positive targeted me specifically.
it had to do with missing meetings for work.
they even had a demo on what we should do if our boss asks us to stay overtime on a meeting night (basically say "no" and risk losing your great job which you have no desire whatsoever to lose)... so i'm aware that there's a sort of protocol the elders follow when someone in the hall needs to work on something.

Thank you and everyone else for your answers. I really don't think this local needs talk was a "marking talk" of the kind Paralipomenon mentioned. I'm an MS and someone seemed fazed even one bit by this and everyone, including the elders greeted me warmaly both before and after the meeting as they normally do. I'm not sure that its well known that I was the subject of the talk, but I know it is because the elders had mentioned the issue to me in private in the past.
I wouldn't mind stepping down at all truthfully but I think it might be a little too soon for that.

So I'm aware that there's a sort of protocol the elders follow when someone in the hall needs to work on something. First they mention it in the local needs and they go from there. But what happens next if I don't shape up? Will they begin to approach me personally? Would it be good enough for them if I say I go to a different hall to make up the meetings I miss? It doesn't even happen often. Perhaps once or 2x per month on either Thrusdays or Sundays when we have meeting.

10 hour basic pioneer provision question
by Letts Party ini remember hearing about this rumor around the time of the annual meeting.
did this really happen?
i haven't heard anything about it at my meeting yet.

thanks Sir82 for the clarification.
I just read your bio. I'm in the same predicament but i'm an MS. My wife luckily has been pretty accepting of my doubts but she won't leave without her parents and that'll never happen. We have frequent discussions about the asinine things we hear at convention and meetings but that's where it stops.
Anyway, I was asking because i know another elder that mentioned he heard about the 10 hour basic pioneer provision. If it was just a rumor, could that potentially mean he's also a lurker here? that'd be awesome! I know he's intelligent and him lurking about here would make sense but that would still be incredible!
